James Wernke Foundation

3rd Annual "Smile of a Champion" Golf Tournament Registration

James loved animals, especially dogs. James died trying to save his dog. The foundation supports the Dumb Friends League in providing shelter and care for animals.
James' Foundation enables underprivileged children to "play ball" by providing the equipment and registration needed for youth sports programs.
James had a brilliant smile. We support the Smile Train to help children with cleft palates develop the "Smile of a Champion" and transform their lives.

There are people we meet in life whose lives touch us in lasting ways.  James was that special person whose brilliant smile could instantly warm your heart and whose ebullient spirit could enliven your own in ways never forgotten and always cherished.

James Wernke (21) had a promising future that was cut short when he was found dead in a raging torrent of water.  His short life was characterized by his love of life, family and friends.  He was further defined by the sport he cherished "The American Pasttime".

James was drafted out of high school as a left handed pitcher by the Oakland A's.  He choose to go to junior college.   He signed with Long Beach State but never got to throw a pitch.
